The California’s insurance exchange, known as “Covered California,” offers four different health care plan tiers, platinum, gold, silver and bronze, that provide a range of costs and benefits. There are tax credits to help cover the cost of health insurance premiums for individuals and families with income under 600% of the Federal Poverty Level, and assistance with co-pays and deductibles for individuals with income below 250% of the Federal Poverty Level.
Although there is no longer a federal requirement to have health insurance, most California residents must have minimum essential coverage insurance to avoid tax penalties.
